Closed

Hi! Everyone! Jemima Jones Beck here again!
Not much happened on our trip today because Glacier National Park was closed! Their campgrounds were closed, their main attractions were closed, they were just closed.
So Mom and I decided to drive onward and are currently staying in a campground in Kalispell, Mt (isn't is amazing how all of these campgrounds have not only wireless but also electricity? Mom says that she can remember before campgrounds had showers - imagine!).
We did encounter a waterfall along the side of Hwy 2 just before Kalispell. It was pretty, and cool, but I hate water so I really resent Mom for dragging me up to it.
Tabatha the black Beetle (the car) enjoyed the view though - as you can see in one of the pictures included here.
Speaking of Tabatha, we are going to see a mechanic for her tomorrow...she is having a problem with her left front wheel. Here's hoping that it's nothing major, but we called Dad and he says that it sounds like a wheel bearing (sp?).
Thanks to everyone who has been reading and leaving comments - it really cheered Mom up this evening to see all the comments and good wishes (she cut her finger and was feeling very down).
Love,
Jemima Jones Beck
PS: Yep, that was a piece of a cottonwood tree that Mom pulled out of my butt fur!
Love,
Jemima

Traumatic Thursday

Hi! Everyone! Jemima Jones Beck here with another trip update.
Today, as you can probably tell from the title, was a traumatic day.
It started out OK, with breakfast (dog food and a banana) and a short trip through the rest of the Badlands to Wall Drug.
Wall Drug, if you have never been, is a sort of all around emporium that gives free water to tourists and free doughnuts to honeymooners. At Wall Drug you can ride a giant Jackalope, or see a huge, moving, T-Rex. Mom just used the bathroom, as this is her second trip to Wall Drug.
The day went downhill from there.
So far today Mom has burned her own neck, had a tick removed from her jugular by a waitress in Sturgis, SD, been obliged to track down a biker named Brandi by his 3 year old daughter in a bar called Booze in Rozette, Wy, pulled a "bug" (so we thought), from my butt fur, watched a deer get hit by a semi truck (ewwy), run over a shovel that fell out of a truck in front of us (no damage), and discovered that the person camping next to us is from an organization called "The Cross Walkers". He has a 15 foot cross strapped to the top of his Jeep. We hope that he does not want to talk about Crucifixion.
Here's hoping that tomorrow is a better day!
Love,
Jemima Jones Beck
PS: Did you know that Montana is way bigger than it looks?
Love,
Jemima

Wandering Wednesday

Hi! Everyone! Jemima Jones Beck here with a quick update.
Today Mom and I left home on the first day of our road trip!
We drove from Denver, Colorado through Ft Morgan and Sterling, into Nebraska, past Carhenge (which was closed - bastards!), into South Dakota, through the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, into The Badlands, and finally, to our campground which is about 4 miles South of Badlands National Park in Interior, South Dakota.
It was quite a day!
Mom and I are both really liking the KOA that we are staying at (the Badlands campground was full). This KOA has an off leash dog park, a mini golf course, and free WI-FI (Mom and I are currently sitting in our tent typing this - cool huh?).
In the pictures included here you can see me (with my favorite toys - thanks for reminding me Norman) at the start of our trip, and some of the places that we went through, through out the day. You can see that I spent a great deal of time looking out the window, that Mom actually managed to get the tent up BY HERSELF!!! And that we had some dinner (salad and cottage cheese). When Mom opened her mess kit she got a surprise from Dad (pictured last photo).
Jemima's Mom's Note: Thanks Sweet Pea - I love you very much too!
We haven't decided where we are going tomorrow yet, but it will be in the general direction of Montana and Glacier National Park.
Love,
Jemima Jones Beck

Hi! Everyone! Jemima Jones Beck here.
I just wanted to let you all know that Mom and I are getting ready to leave home on an extended trip, and while I will be updating my blog frequently, we will not be checking in on anybody else's blogs for about a month. So, don't be mad at us if we don't comment for a while!
Have a great June!

Questions Answered

Hi! Everyone! Jemima Jones Beck here with the answers to some questions! A big "thanks" to everyone who participated!
Lex asked "...how did you get your name, Jemima"? I am named after the title character of Jane Green's best novel, Jemima J A Novel about Ugly Duckling and Swans. Mom had just finished reading Jemima J when she bought me...apparently, the other name option was "Spork" which doesn't fit me at all, but which does fit our youngest kitty, Spork, who came to live with us when I was about six months old.
Clover (Happy Birthday BTW!) asked me "Do you have a favorite toy or favorite toy type"? Indeed, I love all squeaky toys Clover! Anything that is soft and snugly and makes noise when you chew it is all right with me!
TwoPugs asked a couple of fun questions. First "What's your favorite show"? Well, Mom and Dad actually do not own a TV, so I don't get to watch many shows. The shows that I do get to watch are ones that Mom purchases from itunes and downloads to her laptop. She usually downloads shows like South Park and American Dad. I am not a huge fan of either of those shows...Last year we were members of Netflix and Mom rented the entire X Files series. I really liked that! I always sat on Mom's lap to watch the episodes with her...(honestly, I have a thing for David Duchovany - don't tell Daniel Radcliffe, he's saving himself for me and would be heart broken I am sure).
Second "Who are you voting for on American Idol tonight"? Do you know, none of us in this household have EVER seen an episode of American Idol? We haven't had a TV since 2004! I am not sure when American Idol came on, but it's newer than 2004, right?
Third " If you could be any dog in history, who would you be and why"? Well, this was a hard one! I obviously had to chose to be another Pug, because, after all, why be anything else when you have already been the best? So I would be Empress Josephine de Beauharnais' (Napoleon's wife) pug, Fortune. Fortune was very important to Josephine, sleeping with she and Napoleon at night, passing messages back and forth between them when both were imprisoned, etc. I bet that Fortune knew a LOT of royal secrets and got a LOT of treats!
Nickee asked "does your Mommy call you by any other/shorter name"? Yes indeed. Sometimes Mom calls me "wiggles" or "brat" - but that second one is only for when I have been bad such as chewing another set of her knitting needles.
Nickee also asked "do you have any sort of routine at home"? I do! I start every day with breakfast. Mom gives me one cup of dry food, mixed with one third can of wet food, and a crushed vitamin. I have my morning constitutional and then a nap. I go out again in the afternoon, and then have another nap, and go out for the last time in the late evening just before bed. Of course, I do lots of other things during the day and evening (such as walks around Sloan's Lake and trips to the dog park), but none of those are on a set schedule.
Nickee also asked "Do you like massages". I do NOT like massages. But my younger brother, Netty LOVES them.
Thanks for reading and asking questions!
Love,
Jemima Jones Beck

Jumping off the Bridge

Hi! Everyone! Jemima Jones Beck here. Mom and I went for another walk around Sloan's Lake today and boy! Was it hot!
We had fun despite the heat, as you can see from the pictures included here.
First, I chased some geese.
Second, we found a little panda who is surely missing his friend...:(
Third, we watched the water lapping on the bank after a speed boat went by.
Fourth, we rested near some VERY scenic trash... and finally we met some mini winged devils and their Mama.
Jumping off the bridge in the title refers to the blog game that everyone seems to be doing these days...you know...that one where readers leave questions in the comments of a blog, and the blog author answers them.
So, since everyone else is doing it, we think that we should do it too! If you have any questions that you are dying to ask Mom, or myself (or Dad or the kitties) feel free to do so and we will answer the questions in a future post!
Love,
Jemima Jones Beck
Ps: If you enbiggin' the picture of the baby winged devils you can totally see that the Mama was glaring at us with extreme malevolence. It was frightening! Don't her eyes look slightly red to you? Red and evil?
Love,
Jemima

Mother's Day

Hi! Everyone! Jemima Jones Beck here with a much belated Mother's Day post.
This year, as last year, we had Grandma Marlane and Grandpa Steve, Grandma Andrea and Leo over for brunch on Mother's Day. It was a lot of fun!
Mom and Dad served fruit salad, bacon, eggs, and herbed cream cheese on bagel chips, as well as various drinks.
There was a Hello! Kitty theme and lots of presents AND I got to play with my Aunt Tyka! Yay!

Sloans Lake with Grandma Andrea

Hi! Everyone! Jemima Jones Beck here. Mom and I went for a walk around Sloan's Lake with Grandma Andrea today. We had a great time, but when I stopped to get a quick drink we ran into some winged devils - which Mom says are known as Canadian Goose (Gooses? Geese?).
I was pretty concerned about having to drink near them; after all, who knows what those pervs are doing under the surface of the water, but the hot Denver weather helped me to over come my perverted goose anxiety and I drank and drank and drank!

2006 Gewurtztraminer

Hello! Everyone! Jemima Jones Beck here. Today was an exciting day for me...I got to meet the FedEx lady (sorry Great Aunt Marcia*)!
Why was the FedEx lady at our house, you might wonder? Why, to deliver Mom's 6 bottles of Stoney Mesa wine, of course!
No, Mom isn't a budding alcoholic, but when she and Dad went on the AAA Colorado Wine Train a few weeks ago, she did fall in love with two different wines. One of which, the Stoney Mesa Winery 2006 Gewurztraminer, she was silly enough to buy only one bottle of while she was at the Winery.
After realizing that she liked the wine enough to want more than one bottle, Mom called around to the various wine stores in Denver (and Boulder, and Castle Rock, Colorado Springs, and Ft Collins), to see if any of them carried it. It turned out that the wine is rare and award winning enough that it is only sold directly from the vineyard. So, Mom did the only sensible thing, and ordered a 1/2 case...although now she is wishing that she had ordered more, and is hopping for gift certificates to Stoney Mesa Winery for her birthday in August.
Mom says that if you like white wines you would LOVE this wine and that you should order some for yourself...but not so much that they sell out and she can't get more.
I was excited about the FedEx lady, and Wellington was frustrated by the Stoney Mesa box.
I am not sure that I have mentioned it before, but Wellington LOVES boxes. He loves boxes so much that I have even seen him try to squeeze himself into Kleenex boxes, cereal boxes, and, worst of all, a playing card box.
When Mom emptied the wine box and set it on the floor, Wellington immediately knocked it over and began attempting to squeeze his...uh hum..."chunky" self into the various wine slots. He has been trying to get into the box for the last hour...keep trying big dude! Eventually you'll crush one of those little slats and be able to squeeze in there!
Love,
Jemima Jones Beck

Memoir MeMe from Lex and Sophie and Dixie

Hi! Everyone! Jemima Jones Beck here.
I have been tagged by two different dog blogs (Lex and Sophie and Dixie of Pug and Bugg) for the Six Word Memoir MeMe! Sorry that it has taken me so long to do the Meme but Mom has been lazy about uploading pictures for me and stuff!
Here are the rules:
1.) Write your own six word memoir.
2) Post it on your blog and include a visual illustration if you’d like.
3.) Link to the person that tagged you in your post.
4) Tag at least five more blogs with links. (We are going to change this one and say that whoever is left out there in the blogosphere that wants to do this one is now officially invited)!
So, without further ado, here is my Six Word Memoir:
EXCITED TO LOVE, EAT, PLAY, SNUGGLE!
Love,
Jemima Jones Beck
