She thinks it really helped...at her first weigh in (after only two days on the program) Mom has already lost 2.75lbs! Yay!

Hi! Everyone!Jemima Jones Beck here saying "Happy Blogaversary to Me!". That's right, yesterday was the 6th anniversary of Mom and I starting this blog. Wow, thats a long time ago! I was not even a year old when we started writing...we were living in Oregon and both Mom and Dad were looking for work. Things sure have changed.Mom has been considering shutting down this blog for a few years now. Mostly because there are only so many things that a pug (or a woman writing from the perspective of a pug) can really say; only so many times that one person can post about snuggling before the word "snuggling" itself becomes horrible.Also because it sort of seems like pug/dog blogs themselves have run their course. Most of our bloggy friends don't write anymore.Obviously, we haven't stopped writing yet. Jemima Jones Beck here wishing you a happy November. This month sure is a squishy, wet month. Mostly because we have had totally bi-polar weather here in Colorado...freezing and snowy one day, and 70 degrees and sunny the next.
Mom and Dad have been super busy working on buying a house. They are thinking that THIS time they might actually successfully purchase one: the that they are under contract on has successfully passed inspection and been appraised for quite a bit over the selling price, and Mom and Dad's loan has been underwritten and executed. All that they have to do now is show up at closing with "a butt ton of money".
Mom and Dad are also busy getting ready to leave on their "We Hate Thanksgiving Because it is a Super Stressful and Awkward Holiday So We Are Avoiding It" trip. I just hope that they bring me back something nice.

Boy, I sure haven't been feeling well lately. I seem to have another UTI. Ugh.
Mom got me some antibiotics but the side effects of the antibiotics are almost worse than the UTI...
THE GAS people, the gas! It's unbelievable. It smells like burning rubber and feels like the fire is in my belly.
Luckily, I only needed 10 days of pills, so I will be done soon and we can all go back to breathing burned rubber pug fart free air.
Whew! I hope that Grandma Andrea's couch doesn't smell to bad after I sat on it today...

I know that many of you may be wondering why I haven't been posting as much as normal for the last several months.
Well...the answer is that I just don't have as much to say as I used to.
Back during the heyday of this blog, Mom, who helps me write it, was unemployed. As such, she had tons of time to spend with me, take pictures of me, and write about me. Now though, Mom has been at her job for almost two years, she and Dad are trying to buy a house, Mom is going to the gym and has appointments in the evenings, AND she even has friends (other than me, I mean). All of that adds up to less time with The Pug, and less time to blog.
It's a sad state of affairs, but one that I can't really change as Mom assures me that if I want treats, then I also want her to keep her job (and I want treats my friends, I really, really do).
Mom says that she is going to try to be better about posting...so let's all hope for that!
Not much that is blog worthy has been happening here since Mom got back from her trip to Europe...Dad is still right in the middle of his busy season at work so Mom and I don't see him much and Mom has been taking me for as many walks around Sloan's Lake as possible since the weather is practically perfect right now!
I have just discovered that Mom is planning MORE "let's all ditch Jemima" trips in the coming months. Can you believe that? She is going to New Orleans over Halloween with her best friend Shannon and she and Dad are both going on a Mexican Riviera cruise in November. I think that that is their way of avoiding the worst holiday of the year (aka Thanksgiving) so I don't blame them too much for that one. Plus Dad tells me that I get to go and see his parents,and their dog while they are in Mexico, so I suppose that that's ok...

Oh boy, I think that Mom might be ditching me again. A few weeks ago she brought home a new rolling duffle bag from somewhere called Samsonite and this morning she brought it out of the closet and started putting underwear and socks into it. That is never good.

As you all know, Mom was forced to buy a new car when her old car, Tabitha The Black Beetle, was squished in a car accident. So, while Mom is saddened by the loss of her beloved Bug, she is very happy to have a new car! Especially one that has four wheel drive, and a little bit more room than Tabitha did.
I'm a little less excited because just look how huge this thing is! I look like a midget next to it! I foresee Mom having to lift me into the seat a lot, especially on days when I feel too lazy to jump.

Rest In Peace Tabitha the Black Beetle

Jemima Jones Beck here to say "bye bye" to Mom's beloved car, Tabitha the Black Beetle.
As many of you know, Mom was in a car accident back on 5/10.
Well, after two and a half weeks of fighting three different insurance companies about who is, and isn't, liable for Mom's car, Tabitha has finally been declared a "Total Loss" and towed away to be scraped.
Poor Mom is super sad about the loss...Tabitha was Mom's first "grown up" car. She bought Tabitha from a dealership and everything! Plus, there are all kinds of memories associated with Tabitha. Like the road trip that Mom and I took back in 2008. And all of those hikes that Tabitha drove us too...
It's sad.
So, goodbye dear Tabitha! You were a faithful Bug and we love you! Mom and I both hope that you meet some awesome new friends in the big car lot in the sky! Maybe you could hang out with Mom's first ever car, Zipper...and say Hi! to Scarlett, the Jeep.

Maybe it won't matter after tomorrows Rapture. I mean, who has time to blog when they are attempting to outrun zombie hoards and loot the local Tiffanys...

It's Not My Fault!

Hi! Everyone!

Jemima Jones Beck here. I know that you must all be super upset with me for not posting for close to a month but I promise that it's not my fault!

Mom made me do it! Or rather, Mom made me NOT do it!

Mom and Dad have been super busy this last month: They went to Peru, they went under contract on a house (and subsequently terminated that contract when it was discovered that the house needed an entirely new sewer and was slowly settling into the "Lake" of sewage that the broken sewer was creating), and Mom's car was (probably) totaled by a driver running a light (Mom is still trying to get his insurance company to return her calls, so we don't know yet if it is totaled or just very, very, very squished, but fixable).

Anyways, here are some pictures from Peru - just some of the highlights!

About getting a makeover.
I mean, Mom and Dad tell me that I am beautiful all the time, and Netty certainly seems to love me, but maybe a little color on the chin and cheeks and possibly adult braces. That snaggle tooth look that I have going on is just SO three years ago.

Well...now that Dad's birthday is over, that officially ends what we think of as "The Holiday Season" here in the Beck household.
There are so many holidays and birthdays for us between November (Thanksgiving), December (Mom and Dad's wedding anniversary and Christmas), January (New Years) and February (THREE family birthdays and Valentines Day) that the normal holiday season from Thanksgiving to Christmas just doesn't cut it for us.
It's nice that that is all over, and now we can just look forward to Mom's birthday...in August! Whew!

Dad is turning 27 years old today. That makes him 189 years old in dog years. That is super old! He's so old that I can't really believe how old he is...he's practically older than dirt! Wow!
At any rate, Happy Birthday Dad! I sure love you, and I hope that you get to go on one of those bike rides that you love so much to celebrate...but make sure that you take me for a long walk first. In fact, maybe ONLY take me for a nice long walk...yeah...THAT sounds like a nice way to celebrate.

Mom took this picture right after she bathed me (you can tell because my fur is all sticky-upy in the back there). It cracks her up how I always go and lay on Dad after baths. She thinks it's because I want to get warm by sapping his lap heat but the truth is, I want him to protect me from the horror that is baths!
Maybe, if I sit on his lap FOREVER, Mom won't be able to bathe me ever again.
Although...Dad does voluntarily take a shower every single day...hmmm...maybe I need to rethink this strategy.

Mom MADE me go outside for a potty break and it was horrible - I swear that my pee froze into little peecicles as it was coming out. And I know that Mom's nose hairs and boogers froze because she kept saying "Jemima! Hurry Up! My nose hairs have frozen together and it feels WEIRD!!".
I wonder if I could get Mom and Dad to take me to Mexico, or maybe Fiji, for a little beach break...hmmm...I'll have to work on that one.
At any rate, I better go snuggle with the kitties before they freeze to death but before I go, Mom wanted me to let Pearl and Daisy know that we are going to be mailing their package on Saturday (which is the first day that Mom can get to the post office before it closes), so they should see it sometime next week!

Guess what? Today is my 6th birthday! That means that in human years I am 42 years old!
Now, don't be fooled by the gray on my chin and the age on my ID - I am still one spunky pug! And I am still excited...to be a pug!
This month also marks the 5th Blogaversary of my blog!
That's right folks, I started my blog five years ago this month after Mom, Dad the kitties and I had all moved to Oregon as a way to keep in touch with family back here in Colorado.

Oh my God!
My life is so boring! I have nothing to blog about!
This horrible thought made me sit straight up from the middle of a nap the other day and wonder "what can I do to make life more exciting?". Peeing on things, chewing on stuff, and disobeying Mom and Dad all seem like bad ideas because I get in trouble for doing them, but at least it would be some excitement. Wellington is turning 8 today!

Blossoms of Light, Denver Botanic Gardens

On Christmas night Mom and Dad ditched me and went to the Denver Botanic Gardens Blossoms of Light.

It looks like it was really pretty and exciting; not like I would know since Mom and Dad DITCHED me but...I suppose that it is OK that they left me at home since I AM colorblind.

After Blossoms of Light, Mom and Dad went out for super yummy Indian Food at Little India.

Mom wanted to bring me home her left over Chicken Vindaloo, but Dad said that he didn't want to deal with a pug explosion after I ate it. I'm not sure what he meant by that...Oh well.

The Christmas Tree That Has No Soul

Hi! Everyone! Jemima Jones Beck here with the exciting story of the Christmas Tree that has NO SOUL.
I bet that you are thinking "what....?" to yourself right now, so let me give you a little background.
Every year Mom and Dad decorate our Christmas tree. And every year they get in a huge fight about the ornaments on the tree.
Dad likes trees that have matching ornaments on them, like the ones that you see in department stores, and he has some ornaments from his childhood that he likes to use if he can't have a matchy-matchy tree.
Meanwhile, Mom has her own ornaments (which Dad, for the most part, doesn't like) and she thinks that Dad's childhood ornaments are "butt ugly".
Also, they don't have enough joint ornaments to cover the whole tree.
In the past, Mom and Dad have tried using both sets of ornaments, his and hers. But that doesn't seem to work because then Mom tries to put all of Dad's ornaments on the back of tree, and then Dad tries to put Mom's on the back of the tree and discovers all of his back there and gets upset. And then Mom doesn't want his ornaments "contaminating" hers with their butt ugliness and then they fight because Dad says that, really, he doesn't care about his childhood set of ornaments, he would just like an "elegant" tree with all matching ornaments instead of the "mess" that they currently have and Mom is all "are you calling my ornaments a MESS?!?!? Just what do you mean by THAT?!" and it's just...bad, and immature.
So, this year, Mom agreed to let Dad have the tree with matching ornaments if she got to pick the color scheme and thus, the incredibly shallow tree that has no soul, was born. Mom and Dad both adore it and guess what? No fight! They really are "Happy Holiday's" this year!
(oh yeah, I almost forgot, Mom and Dad DO have one non matching, non elegant ornament on the back of the tree. It's the one that they bought in Maine while they were on their 10th anniversary cruise in September. Since this is it's first year, it HAD to be on the tree. That was Dad's idea).

The Horror of the Holiday Season Begins...

Well, poo everyone.

It's officially after Thanksgiving, do you know what that means...?
That means that the Horror of the Holiday Season has begun.
Whether it's not knowing which packages are mine to chew and which ones aren't (I always seem to get that one wrong), watching Mom chase Netty around so that she can pull the three feet of ribbon that he just swallowed out of his throat, or listening to Welling tip the tree for the seventeeth time and Mom's resulting meltdown, this season just seems to be...stressful.
Maybe this year will be different...I gues that we shall see!

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
I hope that you are exactly where you want to be on this holiday. Mom, Dad and I sure are: we're right here at home with each other!
You see, neither Mom nor Dad really likes Thanksgiving. For a number of reasons that I won't talk about here, it's a really stressful and horrible holiday for them. Last year, we stayed at home as an experiment, and we loved it so much that we are doing it again this year! Yay!
There won't be any nasty turkey or other Thanksgiving food...just Mom's great cooking (whatever she decides to make will be fine with me and Dad) and, hopefully, a walk around Sloan's Lake.
Tomorrow ("Black Friday") Mom is going to work while Dad and I spend the day together. I'm hoping that he takes me for a nice long hike!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope that yours is as AWESOME as ours is going to be whether you eat turkey, lasagna, or nothing at all!

No, not really. It's actually Mom and Dad's fault.
You see, they are currently in the middle of trying to buy a house and so all of their spare time goes to looking at houses, and talking to brokers, or real estate agents.
It's no fun for the pug, but Mom assures me that I will be happy with the end result - a new, BIGGER, house.
We currently live in an 510 square foot studio loft apartment, so I GUESS that bigger might be better...we shall see.

Part of the reason that my Halloween was so fun was that Mom and Dad dressed me up and took me to an Oktoberfest Party at the Evergreen Lake House.
Lots of people petted me and took pictures of me AND there was a buffet, so I ate pasta and chicken! Mmmmmm.

Dad's First Cyclo-cross Race

Recently Mom and I went and cheered Dad on at his first ever Cyclo-cross race.
For anyone out there who isn't married to a cyclist, Cyclo-cross is a bike race in which the cyclist must not only ride the bike, but also be able to jump on and off quickly to carry (while running) the bike across, over, and through obstacles. Cyclo-cross is basically cross between road and mountain biking.
Mom thinks that it looks like torture and given the way that many cyclists were drooling while running past us, the participants may have thought so as well.

Pumpkin Carving with Grandma Andrea

Mom and Dad's 10th Anniversary Cruise to Northeastern Canada and US

Well, as I mentioned in my last post, Mom and Dad did indeed go somewhere without me for their 10th Anniversary on September 30th, 2010.
They went on a Carnival Cruise! Can you believe that? I would have had such a good time on a cruise! And I would have been a good girl, too.
Oh well, maybe next time. I told Mom that she could share some pictures from the cruise with you, even though I am not in ANY of them.
Mom wanted me to tell you that these pictures are presented in reverse because that is the way that blogger wants them for some unknown reason.

This first set is from Boston (last stop on the cruise). In Boston, Mom and Dad walked the freedom trail and saw lots of famous sites. This also happened to be their actual anniversary.

This next set is from Portland, Maine. Mom and Dad did a "Lighthouses of Maine" tour there. They saw Portland Head Light, Spring Light, and Bug Light.

Next is St. John, New Brunswick. There Mom and Dad went on a "hike" (nothing like the hikes in Colorado, more like a "walk") in the Irving Nature Park.

Random towel animal, you know that you love it!

And, the first stop on Mom and Dad's cruise, Halifax, Nova Scotia. Here Dad found the Canadian Swiss Cheese Crackers that he has been desperately searching for since the last time that he and Mom were in Canada...
They also saw a model of the Titanic, which seemed like a bad thing since Mom and Dad were on a cruise ship!

And, Finally, the place where Mom and Dad embarked, and disembarked, New York, New York. Here Mom and Dad Did a double decker bus tour and went to the 82nd floor of the Empire State Building!

Mom and Dad are Going Somewhere, I Just Know it...

Hi! Everyone,
Jemima Jones Beck here with some disturbing news.
I think that Mom and Dad might be going somewhere soon...there have been signs:
Mom set the duffel bags out to "air". This is bad. It usually means that Mom is about to put stuff into the duffel bags and doesn't want them to smell like closet and dust.
Dad has been talking about looking forward to "having a week off". This is also bad. Dad never takes time off unless Mom is dragging him somewhere. I mean, this is the dude who routinely works 90 hour weeks. Suspicious. Very suspicious.
Mom has stopped grocery shopping. This is VERY bad, because it means that Mom is trying to make sure that there is nothing in the fridge that can "go bad" while she is not there to keep the contents of the fridge properly in check.
And Mom and Dad's 10 year anniversary is coming up. Not their wedding anniversary (6 years on 12/24/2010), but the anniversary that they celebrated before they got married. And 10 years together is big...TRIP SOMEWHERE big...hmmmmm.....

Mom's Recipe for Carrot-Beet Soup (for Beet Lovers Only)

Hi! Everyone! Jemima Jones Beck here to bring you Mom's recipe for Carrot-Beet Soup.
I should probably warn you that this recipe is really only good for people who already love Beets. If you aren't already a Beet lover, than this may not be the recipe for you as it is very Beet-y.
So, first things first: Roast six whole carrots and three large beets with some tarragon, salt and pepper, and twelve cloves of garlic in tightly tin foil covered pans for 40 minutes (everything should have skins still intact).
Once your veggies are roasted, let them cool while chopping and sauteing a whole onion plus the roasted garlic gloves. You can easily squeeze the garlic clove out of it's skin once it has been roasted.

Chop your carrots, and skin and then chop your beets.

And remember, that unless you want to look like you have been murdering people, you may want to wear gloves when playing with beets.

Toss everything into the pan with the onions, add four cups of chicken stock and simmer, covered, for about thirty minutes.

Puree simmered mixture with six more minced cloves of garlic until smooth, and contemplate how much your soup really does look like a pot of blood. Consider pouring it on yourself and laying on the kitchen floor with butcher knife to freak out significant other.
Reject idea and instead enjoy your Carrot- Beet soup!

And, if you are anything like Mom, don't give ANY to the hungry, hungry pug. You're killing me here Mom, killing me!

The Scarf Always Means that Something Good is about to Happen

I always know that something good is about to happen if Mom gets out one of my scarfs.
Sometimes it means that someone is going to come over and see us (like Mother's Day when Grandma Andrea and Grandma Marlane come over just to see me) and sometimes it means that we are about to go out somewhere.
This weekend Mom got out the stuff and we went to the car...

And went to the dog park!

Where I promptly sat down because that drive was super tiring! I mean, five minutes sitting in a car?!? Whew!

After I got done sitting, I ran through the tunnel, and jumped over the hurdle, and sniffed the fence...

And then I sat down again! Whew!

A Lovely Late Summer Day in Evergreen with Grandma Andrea

Well, Mom is spending time figuring out exactly how to post blog posts from her new IPad, and I am spending lovely late Summer days hiking with Grandma Andrea.
Grandma Andrea is good to me...she comes to see me every Thursday when Mom has to work an extra long day at work.
I really look forward to seeing her, and to the adventures that she takes me on, such as hikes and trips to Frisco.
Sadly, Grandma Andrea is going back to work in a few weeks and I won't get to see her on Thursdays anymore... :(
That makes me super sad, but I understand that even super fun Grandma's have to work too.

What Mom Did on Her Birthday

Hi! Everyone! Jemima Jones Beck here. As you all already know, Mom was sick on her birthday, so she and Dad weren't able to do any of the fun things that the had planned (on Mom's actual birthday, or for the entire weekend afterwards). So, what did Mom do with all of that "sick time"?

Now, Mom isn't the best scrapbooker out there, but she is persistent and she gets her stuff done quickly which, is a good thing considering the mess that she usually makes.
